If my pants are on I carry. Some of you said your life could be ruined better that dead. Use only to save your life.

Your right, of course. You may never need it in your life time. I hope that's the case. However, if you only need it once that is enough.

I'm not sure where Midland and Lakeland is, but you should try getting a weapon in NJ.

I'm not a real big advocate for carrying a weapon but lately I've been thinking about purchasing a handgun to to keep with me while out shooting (pardon the pun). I was wondering, do any of you carry such a weapon and, if so, have you felt more secure? I know the world has gotten a little crazy and I wish we didn't have to arm ourselves - I'm not sure what to do.

This is why I as a women am so uncomfortable going out on my own! I would love to pack while I am out in the field but just haven't gotten the nerve to take a the class for my license. My DH is afraid If I heard anything I start shooting & he is probably correct,so no gun for me!

I'd be tempted to use it too often. :D

Actually, if some thugs came up to me with a gun, I doubt they'd pause and let me reach for my gun. Their gun is pointing at my heart. Mine is sitting in my pocket. What you have to do is carry it in your hand, ready for use.

It wouldn't be the first time. Unfortunately, that has become a comedy staple on TV - husband/wife hearing a noise at night and shooting (wounding) a family member - as if that's something to laugh at.

I think this is a great question. I have read many times that being fully prepared for the unexpected while planning a photo shoot is very important. Because of this i have backed out of plans or opportunities to do late night shoots before. And that was with my old 35mm film gear. Now that i am fully loaded with dslr gear i may check to see about concealed license. I'm the only one in my family who doesn't pack. Thats a little odd!
Recently i have had a couple of moments where i didn't completely feel a ease just walking with my camera and 70-200 lens, to many people looking at ya a little strangely. Maybe i could defend myself with a monopole....
Rather have my 9mm though

I Carry all the time in locations that the law allows.

 So do I! It has already saved me from being robbed of my photo gear deep into a stare park. If you are going to pack a concealed gun legally then you have to possess enough common sense to know that you cannot use it just because someone pisses you off!

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said that the FBI's semi-annual uniform crime data for the first half of 2013 confirms once again what the firearms community already knew -- violent crime has continued to decline while gun sales have continued to climb.

I recommend you go to your local gun store with a shooting range. If you are not already a trained shooter take some lessons. Handle as many handguns as you can, rent a few, and see how they feel in your hand, and how capable you are in handling recoil, etc. Same for holsters.

Then look into yourself. Are you capable of using a weapon to defend yourself or a loved one. If not, do not carry. If you are, research your area and find the best concealed weapon class you can. Take the course, apply for your Concealed Carry permit, get fingerprinted and photographed and wait for your CCW to arrive in the mail.

Then, and not before then, you can carry a firearm. It is your right as a an American, but you will be held to a higher standard. Oh, also consider joining the NRA. Don't let the anti gunners discourage you. Good luck. Know your rights and protect them.

I sleep with a 45 under a pillow all the time here. I keep an m16 in my bunker and a shotgun in the house. And I always carry concealed.

I carry dog repellent (not exactly mace but close to it)when I am on a trail far from civilization with few other hikers in sight.
