I know that these aren't the greatest
I shot these the other day. I am still testing out my new camera, again using a 300mm telephoto lens. I just thought that I would share them from a technical aspect.
Cute little bug.
This guy was hard to shoot. It was windy and he was not cooperative at all. He kept moving around.
I was about 10 feet away and, if I remember correctly, the auto focus was hunting quite a bit.
wow that last shot is awesome! the two bugs contrast each other fantastically!
Nothing wrong with these! Keep at it.
#1 is awesome ! Great color, nice and sharp, and the depth of field is about as wide as the bug ! A little bit of a bullseye (Centered), but most of mine are, too - it just seems the best fit ! Can you move him around in the frame & see if it makes a difference ?
Sorry to get back to you so late but I have 10 million things to do at once and my wife seems to think that is entirely possible. I will have to find what file I stored the original in and then I will play with it. I will print it here.

Maybe I am on to something-not.
All the pictures are nice but, the first's one is great!!!!! the other two are okay. They are a little out of focus and in macro that's big. But unlike Meatloaf 1 out of two ain't bad. especially when your taking macro of bugs and flowers.
Hope you know who Meatloaf is. If not my point is mute.

I totally love the first one. Fabulous colors, sharp focus, nice background. The only thing I can think of is to crop a bit to apply the rule of thirds. Here's my idea. If you don't like it, it's OK. :P

The second photo is very nice. I love the background, the soft focus on the flower is very well done and the colors are great. The only thing I would change is to sharpen the focus on the moth. Here's what I did. What do you think?

The third photo is really good too. You are fantastic at backgrounds! Great colors, soft focus on the flower is nicely done. I do think that sharpening the bugs would add something. Here's what I did.

I think the first is really cool can see it blown up and in a frame. Very artistic. Looks like you are having a great time with your new camera.

Meatloaf sang (Never mute, nor moot) "I want you, I need you, but I'm never gonna love you - but 2 out of 3 ain't bad . . ."
There- 70's lyrics police AND the grammar police - all in one post ! You're right - these ARE good ! I'm gonna have to try a monopod or the "Sting trick" for less shake in bug macros.
If you ask me ... Manna is one to be recconned, other than that, she is really hot,... oops, right, as a large pond is keeping the departed-parted... now then the post are really smart as the bugs are a problem here too. Bravo to you as I shore would be proud of my bugs, butt around here we squish-um than we squash-um. Nice to see a bug like your'se is so alive. I think (on odd occasion) that you are doing it too.
