I have had my 7000 for 2 years now. I LOVE this camera. There is a definate learning curve with it, so be patient. I had the advantage of having had another anion first, so that helped but it is a fantastic camera.

The D7000 is a great camera, and the prices have come down considerably. I'd recommend looking for a factory refurbished body.

I have the D7000 as well as D7100 and D800. I don't know why you would choose the 7000 instead of the 7100 when you are starting. Why not get the sharpest possible (based on megapixels). The price is not that big a difference . They don't even advertise the D7000 in the magazines anymore. I think the D7100 has made it obsolete Or will very shortly

Yup! That's ditto for me. I took Jerry's advice and got a refurbish and bought an extended warranty with all the money I saved. I think it had like 60 shutter clicks. Really love it. I would buy a refurbished any day over used.

Lots of choices. Refurbs are always my first choice. Price and availability can vary depending on supply.

I thought about the 7100 too, but opted for the 7000 for now and saving for a 7200, which should come in about a year for as fast as these cameras are being released.

Their is a new version 7100. I must tell you that
the my 7000 was a favorite camera. It just worked
so well and shots/video were good. I traded it in and
didn't get much for it but wanted a premium Nikon lens.
With the rush to full frame I will bet that their are many
good used in B&H or any of the big suppliers rather then refurb.
Good Luck Tom

When I bought mine there was a big enough difference to get an extended warranty and another lens as well as a grip. So with my 7000 purchase I have a good base for the next step.

I had upgraded from the D70 to the D7000 and am still learning to use it. I have been very happy with it and have no complaints. I can't afford to upgrade to every step up they make. The industry is changing so fast. My upgrade next time will be to a full frame Nikon. Just not yet.

i love my d7000 ..and even bought a backup for it..i use it for all my outdoor shoots..i only have one full body camera (the d700) that i use for indoor studio work..using the same 4 lenses i own on both cameras..the quality on the d7000 is superb..and the price is way down now..i see no reason to buy a new camera each time they upgrade unless you are rich and have the money to spare..

Interesting story regarding the 7000 availability. Last September / October I got the itch to upgrade to the 7100 and do a body only swap. My local camera store informed me the 7000 body while in excellent condition would not give me enough to make a new 7100 body affordable. Seems that Nikon had dumped the 7000’s into the big box market, and that drove the used market down. Costco is currently selling the Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-200mm VRII Lens Bundle & WR-1 Wi-Fi adapter for $1750 through the end of February.
I'm always looking for that shutter speed edge to shoot my grandsons sports activities and still miss the old days of TRI-X and Acufine.
