SX50 strange problems

I have an SX50 that is a few weeks old and I would like to share with you what I am experiencing and hope that you would respond if you are having the same problems.

1- My CD is white with no logos at all. The computer reads it and shows that it is downloading but no screen comes up to indicate the next step. Nothing happens at all. I have downloaded the manual from a Canon affiliate and assumed that updates would be made to the manual. What other kind of updates can be made? Obviously the camera cannot be updated. I'm trying to find out if there is any significance to my CD not working properly.

2- REAL DOOZY: My telephoto-wide angle finger control works backwards. If I go to three tree it zooms in. If I go to one tree it zooms back. I've done this already a thousand times so there's no mistake. I just ignore the imprinted logos and do the opposite of what comes naturally. It is natural to push or move the lever to the left in order to go out or telephoto, and to pull or move to the right in order to go wide angle.

Has anyone else experienced these problems?

For what you describe you have a serious problem.

No manufacturer will sell a product w/o their logo on it. You are dealing with a bootleg.

That alone prompts me to suggest you to contact the reseller and get a full refund, to be used toward the purchase of the same camera (or another) somewhere else.

There is definitely something wrong with the camera. I would send it back for replacement.

It is difficult dealing legitimately in Israel as the retailers are probably not legitimate themselves. I had high hopes for stores that claim to be Canon dealers but I think I was wrong to trust even them.

I have written to CANON regarding my problems as I have posted them here but I never considered the possibility that the camera is a knock off. My serial number is: 673031014348. If any of you have a way of finding out if I got ripped off I would be grateful to know.

For your first point, I rarely see any updates to the manuals themselves but occasionally there are updates to the camera software. You can typically find them on the manufacturers website. See the link below for Canon Support.

I remember you posting you were switching to the SX50 but didn't see where you purchased it from. As has been stated already, It IS unusual that the CD that came with the camera is blank and I would be concerned that the controls appear to be backwards. In the link above there is a place to ask questions to Canon support, it would be interesting to see how they respond. Hope you get some good answers soon.

Did not pay attention to your location, sorry.

Best bet for you is to access the Canon web site and find out who are the legitimate sellers from there and disregard all other advertisement. I lived in the Middle East for a few years and this is the only way I found to get the 'genuine' articles.

Addendum: and oh boy are they over priced!!!

If you move the black tab on the shutter release to the right...the camera will go to telephoto...move it to the left and it will come back to a shorter focal length.

Thanks but the link you sent me works only for the U.S.A. I live in Israel. BTW: I originally bought the SX50 and was sent the EOS 70D W instead with the 18-135mm lens. How's that for a screw up? It took weeks to get the mess straightened out.

Your resolution assumes U.S. residency. I live in Israel.

Yes they are over priced but I tried to buy the lens shade (c$22) from B&H and the remote control also (c$22). For a $44.00 order that is feather weight they were charging $85.00 for shipping, so who is ripping who off? BTW: For the Middle East map, an Arab must own it. All countries are listed except Israel.

I have been taking photos for 60 years. If you are at wide angle you will see three trees. If you go telephoto you will see one tree. Mine is the opposite.
