Thought new camera was bad but.....

My s/o has a brand new Pentax body and has been thrilled with it for almost a month until the middle of the day yesterday when it started doing funky things. All his pictures were turning out in crazy colors. It seemed everything was ruined and he couldn't figure out why. To say he was devastated was an understatement. When we got home he decided to put one on Lightroom to see if he could fix it and it looked fine. ?????? He shoots in raw+jpeg so I thought a few minutes and then asked him if the camera could somehow have been switched to one of those funky modes like sketch or colorize or something like that so he went into the menu to check and sure enough it had. He doesn't know how he did it. Maybe when he was trying to tweak settings in the bright sun while an eagle was overhead. Who knows? But thank God over 500 images were ok because he was shooting in raw, too. He just deleted the jpegs and all is well in the world. Just thought I'd share. And now he doesn't have to call B&H and tell them he needs an RMA for his new Pentax. (-:

Happy it worked out. I am a Pentax user as well and I like the results I get except for when I get the settings wrong.

As pentax users, what are your favorite lenses and why.?? I'm very enthusiastic about Pentax cameras and Pentax GLASS. So far I have a 50mm, a 100 mm macre, a 12-24wide angle, and a pancake 40. Curious about "others' choices

Have to ask my s/o but since we're avid birders he'll probably say his 300mm prime. Great to have something longer but when you have to carry it......

I'm personally a Nikon gal. (-:

Thanks for asking. I'm a very happy Pentax user. It's nice to hear from other Pentax users on what is obviously a predominantly Canon/Nikon online photo forum.
Here's a summary of my equipment:

1. Bodies: Pentax K01 and K5; Battery Grip
2. Pentax lenses: 50mm 1.4; 16-45; 35mm 2.4; 40mm 2.8 limited; 70mm limited; 50-300mm DA ED 4-5.8; 100mm WR 2.8
3. Sigma lenses: 17-70mm 2.8-4 DC; 10-20mm 3.5 DC HSM; 28mm 1.8 EX DG
4. Flash: Bolt VS-510P
5. Tripod: Benro Traveller

Although Pentax recently discontinued the 16-45mm lens, it's probably my favorite; I got it with the K5 instead of the 18-55 kit lens. It's given me some of my best results.
I'm now saving for the K3 and, once I get it, I'll be platooning it with the K5 (depending on location and situation). I use the K01 with the 35mm and 40 mm lenses instead of using a "bridge" camera for impromptu and candid shots. If you're patient with the K01's weird auto focus, you can get some excellent results. After my wife, and musical instrument, my K5 is a "best friend."

I'm absolutely amazed, sounds like my inventory, except for my Manfrotto mono-pod & manfrotto tri-pod and my flash is a Metz. I have purchased a few great deal lenses on e-bay. Got a 170-500mm sigma, and a 135 prime lens (Sigma) both used but very, very good. The K-01 was my idea of going smaller, but it turned out not to be. I'm happy with it, none-the-less, because I can use all of my pentax lenses on both the K-5 and K-01. I'm lovin it... Pentax was the true originator of slr, thanks to Germany losing the war and their patent rights, and I'v appreciated their glass ever since. RJM...

I forgot to mention, that after buying the K-01 and a couple of new pentax lenses, I gave my son a pretty complete Canon system and then bought a few more pentax lenses and the K-5. I got the 12-24 and the 100mm macro anda 34 -70 for pentax, by Sigma. I need a cart these days, but it's all GOOD. RJM

Our stories sound very similar. I also got my son a Canon (Ti3) and a 50mm 1.8 lens, but he loves the images from my K5 I send him. In think he uses it only in "sports" mode for taking shots of the kids on the soccer field.

If you check out the ratings for last week's UHH weekly photo contest ("Windows" category), and scroll to the 5th image, you'll see my entry, which was taken with a K01 (reflections in ten windows on the back side of the house).

I'm a member of a local camera club in eastern Massachusetts, but the only member (out of 130+) using a Pentax DSLR. Yet, my images are very much up there with the Canon and Nikon members.
Best wishes.

Canon's good Nikon's fair and I just love my pentax gear, It's a flashback to my days in VietNam, and a Rhyming photographer is what I am. RJM

I went to look at your picture, but the fifth image didn't look like any house on the east coast. And they (the pictures) don't have the names of the folks that submitted them. Rjm (digit-up)

OK. I'm not sure how UHH reports/displays these things.
Anyway, good luck and good shooting.
