I am looking at purchasing a Nikon factory refurbished lens. It comes with a Nikon 90 day warranty. Adorama offers a one year New Leaf warranty for $7.95. I have never purchased a refurbished lense before so I was wondering if anyone out there thinks the extra warranty is necessary.

For $7.95 how can you go wrong. Bill

Come on OddJobber, It's a Nikon !! Of course it won't break. Unless of course he drops in in the drink or his Black Lab puppy decides to have it for breakfast...........

I would ask if the warranty covers anything else but new leaves, but ultimately, yeah, what Bill said. Another $8.00 ain't gonna break the bank.
Check what it costs to add it to your homeowners insurance. Such a rider has no deductible and covers all catastrophes---thief,dropping it, the dog eating it, leaving it in a taxi---you name it. I have $1500 worth of equipment(D5200 body and three lenses) for $29/year with Liberty Mutual. Hard to beat.
Cameta camera gives a 1 year warranty with their refurbished lenses. They are also quite reliable.
With what I have NOT spent on insurance, extended warranties, and the like over the sixty-some years I have been involved with photography, I could probably buy three or four new high quality lenses and two top-flight bodies today. That includes consideration of cost of repairs of a camera and lens damaged in a hailstorm in the Colorado mountains many years ago.
I never buy them, though I know one pro photographer who makes a point of damaging worn equipment and filing claims. Not my game!
