I ordered a 85mm f/1.8 lens on 2-5-14. Yesterday I noticed they are selling it for $100 less than I paid. I asked them to give me credit for the difference. Chatted with 2 different customer service reps and they would not do it. They both directed me to the old web page and dropped from the chat room. I got back in a third time and requested a RMA.
They would rather take the return and loose the sales than to give me the new price. Does that make sense.
It looks like Amorama with get a lens order.
you could return it and then re-order one at the new price...right? of course you have to pay the return shipping....they probably get factory rebates on lenses sold during certain dates...this is the likely reason they wouldn't give you the $100 back....but if that's the case they should have explained it to you....just good customer service (which is mostly lacking in biz today)
That makes no sense. Hopefully somebody from B&H will see your post and straighten it out.

It happens sometimes. It looks like you bought your lens on Feb 5 and the discount was available 10 days later. I bought the Sigma 150-500 for $1069 from B&H in March 2012 and 15 days later it was available at $969. I live outside the USA so I didn't follow up on it. Maybe they make good if the price difference was immediate, like a couple of days later, but 10 days ? Maybe not. That said, I have bought from them for the last 10 years and no complaints.
Thanks for sharing joer. I've been entertaining the idea of adding this lens, now I'm ready to pull the trigger.
As competitive as online sales are these days you would think that B&H would have been more accommodating. But, it could also be Nikons pricing structure as well. I don't think vendors can drop the price on an item until Nikon, Sony or whoever gives them the OK. The price drop may have been applied a day or so after your purchase. Just my .02 cents.

They have given me refunds in the past in similar situations. Must be some new policy.

Thank you for your order and this feedback. We regret your dissatisfaction. The issue is not that we "would not," but that we could not. The current lower price is due to a Nikon USA rebate. When a US-warranted lens is sold with the lower rebated price, Nikon USA reimburses us for about 80% of the rebate amount. When we honor a lower rebate price for a transaction not otherwise eligible for the rebate, the whole rebate amount comes out of our pocket. That turns a sale with a reasonable profit into one with a loss.
Had you purchased a US (Nikon USA) lens we could have executed what we call a "virtual return," handling the return and resale at the rebated price electronically, but you bought the "IMP" or "grey market," version (
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/838798-GREY/). There is never any rebate on a "grey market" product. The ONLY way for you to get a Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.8G Lens (our NI8518G) with the lower rebate price is to return the lens you have and have it exchanged for the US-warranted version (
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/838798-REG/). Since you already have our return authorization this should be a simple matter. The price difference would be handled as a refund.

Thanks Henry. Now that makes sense. If only the customer service reps would have explained that instead of just redirecting me to the old website and then dropping me out of the chat room.
Who can I contact to arrange for the trade.

I'll add a notation to the return authorization and you can add a brief note in the package when you send the lens you have back.

Glad you caught this, Henry. Didn't sound like B&H. Now someone needs to explain the situation to the customer service reps. ;)
If it were not for the negative tone of the thread title, I would not post.
But, FWIW, B&H graciously, generously and politely "adjusted" the price on items I bought in the holiday season.
I did not ask for my adjustment in a chat room. I asked for it with an email request that was quickly answered.
Last year they offered to extend their 30 day return policy so that I could go on a cruise with a new camera. (I kept the camera.)
Recently there was a thread here where a lens order arrived in a damaged box with the lens missing. B&H immediately sent a replacement lens BEFORE it could be determined what happened.
In my opinion, nobody in internet commerce has better customer service than B&H.

So, another logical explanation and satisfied customer. One more reason we choose to live in the greatest country on the planet.

Agreed. Well Said. Especially being an overseas customer I buy only from completely reliable merchants and B&H is right up there with the best.

Two good comments. Return and reorder.
Nikon controls prices, and they are having a lot of instant rebates right now, but the dealer is not going to eat the cost of that rebate. The lens you bought did not include that dealer rebate. The one you will soon order, will have it.
Look at this page from Adorama. Some lense have the $100 rebate, and some don't. It's Nikon's choice.
