A man in Tustin, CA was in a tree taking pics of a SUNSET and placed on Facebook. This happened about 2-3 days ago. He was subsequently electrocuted. Story was in the LA Times.
Being in NM, I don't worry about such things. We we live, we have 360 degree visuals. I have taken 1000's of sunsets since 2005.
Use P&S cameras. Advances in tech make taking pics so much easier. No shaking and no blurs. Find a camera that feels comfortable in your hands. Stay out of the trees.
May take as many as 25 to 75 pics per sunset, and cloud formations here in SWNM.

Depends on where you live in NM. In downtown Albuquerque, for example, conditions would be similar to Tustin.
Like you, I cannot imagine climbing a palm tree to get photo. This man was a victim of poor judgment.
