Stacking

My first attempt at stacking macro shots. I tried once with 4 shots, but this one is 3. If we have any arachnid experts on the list - do you know what this is? We have two in our garden at the moment - one with the white crust on his back and one without (male and female?) but we have not seen these garden guests here previously.

What is it?
What is it?...

I love macro and I also love the bokeh. I've never tried stacking, most of my shots of the tiny world that is around us is hand held. I can't tell for sure from this angle, but it may be one of several types of orbweaver spiders. What part of the country do you live? That might help in IDing this critter.

I'm up north near Whangarei; yes - looks as if it is an Orb spider - http://www.tepapa.govt.nz/researchattepapa/enquiries/spidersweb/what/pages/orbweb.aspx although this one is green - mine has a white back. Stacking was certainly an interesting experience. The most difficult part was using a lot of patience with the camera and tripod.
Thanks for your response - give it a go sometime, it's fun.

I think it's an inky-dinky spider, and he's searching for a waterspout. I don't know if you have that child's rhyme in NZ.

I don't know for sure, but is the white section a bunch of baby spiders? If you give them a little shake, about a hundred babies will scatter in all directions...

That's interesting; I noted some 'little things with legs' on the dried leaf by the spider. Fortunately, with a full frame camera, one is able to blow images up considerably and there was something odd there when I blew the original image up to 100%.
