Canon T5i w/ 18-135 lens

Am playing with this set up on the T5i…the 18-135 lens is larger and heavier than the kit lens 18-55 but I am getting used to it. I really want the extra zoom. So far I am not sure I am seeing photo improvement, but I know that some sunshine and summer would help! Has anyone used a different lenses for less weight? I hike and X-C ski and need something that will fit in my front pack for easy access. What are you opinions on this Canon 18-135 lens?

This 18-135 lens rarely leaves my Canon 70D. I like the range and the weight does not bother me. I think a lot of people us the Tamron 18-270, which is slightly lighter than the canon and has great reviews.

My wife uses a Tamron 28-200 because she loves how light it is and the quality is decent.
