Hello hoggers, this morning dawned beautiful, clear, and cool. My granddaughter Erica and I took off cameras in hand for Lyonia Preserve in Deltona, Florida. The Florida Scrub Jay was our main target and we were extremely fortunate to find plenty. Erika will post her photos later today or tomorrow. All photos this post are straight from the camera, no cropping or any kind of post processing. I hope you enjoy them. Please try the downloads.

Thanks Pat for viewing and the nice comment. You're right there will be more ( I captured about 150 images) and have to review some more. I can see a lot to be done on a rainy day.
Thanks for the beautiful photos. We just came back from 12 days in Orlando. For some reason Lyonia Preserve was off our radar, else we would have easily driven there. Here in San Diego we have Western Scrub Jays coming to our peanut feeder every day. They are quite common here, and have adjusted well to city life. They're also beautiful, super smart, and interesting. I'll say a little prayer for the Florida Scrub Jays tonight.
The suburban sprawl and new construction everywhere in central Florida was depressing to us. I grew up in Los Angeles back when it was surrounded by wilderness that is now all gone. What a shame. With smart zoning and proper tax incentives we can easily have population growth, agriculture, and wilderness. Sadly, it seems that the powers that be in America have only one god, the almighty dollar.

Thanks wings for viewing and the dialogue and you have hit it right on the head. The Florida Scrub Jay is already an endangered species. Was able to share with my granddaughter some of the natural history of our beautiful state and this gorgeous bird before its all gone. Have a great day.

Thanks so much Doddy, we had a blast out there today and we could not have asked for better weather for a change. I captured over a 100 images and I just picked a few to post. Will post more this week I hope. Have a great day or evening I suppose.
