I am thinking about adding this camera to my stable and I was hoping some one who owns this camera could give me an idea as to how it performs. Also, does it come with a manual that covers the camera completely or just a start up manual. Thanks for the info. sorry, thats "Pix" in the heading.

It doesn't have a detailed manual, pretty much the basic information. I downloaded a manual from the internet that's easier to navigate. I have a few pictures posted taken with it if you care to look at them. I just got it so I can't say too much about it yet. The few images I did take are nice and sharp. I'm sure they will improve as I get the hang of it. Here's a few of the pics. Sorry they aren't in the right orientation.

I am a complete newbie, but I, too, just got a Fuji HS50. I researched long and hard, and it was a struggle but compared Canon SX50, Fuji HS50 and Fuji S1000. I had a Fuji before that I really like, but the speed, battery life, image quality all had me chose the HS50. The zoom is a bit shorter than the other two, but at 42X or 50X, I didn't think I'd notice the difference much. I took my first photos today on my way to work Attached are two that I like the best == just for comparison sake == you can critique if you want, but you'll find a lot in the "wanting" department. To be honest, the HS50 is a bit bigger than I had expected. I like the EVF, the manual zoom and the manual focus. I can't remember if the Canon shoots raw, but that's one feature the HS50 does have and something I'd like to move up to when I get a bit better. I also really like the EXR mode until I learn how to do the manual modes better.

I had downloaded the manual before I even purchased the camera, and it does come with a manual, but on CD, along with their freebie software.

There are so many great choices out there - - - and new models being added all the time. Good luck with your search. I have no doubt you'll be pleased with whatever you choose.

SX50 definitely DOES take 'raw' format, has provision for cable release, and the fully articulating LCD that many others lack.

Thanks for the info, Wahawk. I've been so focused on the HS50, I kind of forgot more of the particulars!!

I'm also stuck between the Fuji, and Canon. Can anyone tell me about the shutter lag time on the Fuji?

I had a Fuji several years ago, and the time between pressing the shutter button, and when the shutter actually activated seemed like forever. Are the new ones any better?

The HS 50 will shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger. I have been using one for months and find it meets--dare I say "exceeds"--my expectations.

Remember it is a Bridge camera and as such has some limitations on extreme zoom in terms of pix quality. I use mine or the HS 30 mostly for street photography and some macro work. For me they fit the bill

VHD - here's more topics from fellow hogs on the SX50 - with some stunning results:

Obviously, this camera is a hit with the Hedgehog crowd! Best wishes.

I bought the HS50 last Spring and like it a lot, you can check out the quality I am getting on my Flickr site at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/archer01/
Type HS50 in the search on my page to get all of the pictures I posted from it.
I seldom use a tripod and really like the light weight compared to my Canon 40D + 100-400.

I haven't noticed any shudder lag with the HS50.

Thanks all. That's what has kept me from even considering another Fuji
