I got an email this morning from Sigma saying the 150-500 has dropped in price to $899.00 from $1,069.00,do you suppose the Tamron 150-600 had anything to do with this??

LOL. I was hoping the new Tamron would lead to some price wars.

I got the same email from Sigma. Looks like the new Tamron is having an effect on prices. TNmike

As usual, our friends at 42nd Street are ready to offer a "better" deal.

Its the same special they ran on it back in November, just s repeat.
The 150-500mm OS HSM is over 4 years old now and has enjoyed wonderful sales success. It is time for an upgrade and I highly suspect Sigma will be revamping it to make it one of their new "Contemporary" models that will be USB Dock compatible to allow for fine tuning the lens to any camera as well as allow for user firmware updates. They may even extend the focal range to 600mm to directly counter the Tamron 150-600mm current reach advantage.

Not much of a better deal when you realize you give up the Sigma 5 year USA warranty for that grey market lens! ;-)

The fact that Sigma is touting this lens as "tried & true" in this promotion suggests that they are at least somewhat concerned about all the buzz surrounding Tamron's new (and so as yet largely untested) offering!

I still use a Nikon 1.4TC on my Nikon 80 to 400 lens. Gives about the same reach.

But glad prices are coming down.

MT,

Have you received your new 150-600 yet?

I am waiting to hear what you think of it before I take the plunge.

I purchased my Sigma awhile back & got it for a good price so I am happy& have no desire to purchase anything by Tamron.I'll stick with Nikon & Sigma but that's just my opinion!

I think I'd still buy the Tamron for the extra reach. Besides, I am happy with my current 70-300...although in exchange for months pay, something in the f2.8 would be nice, too :)
