Sony A7/A7R comprehensive review

I have just read what I feel is the most comprehensive review to date on the new Sony A7 and A7R cameras. It does an excellent job of comparing the two, as well as comparing them against DSLR offerings.
My personal opinion when these were released was that I, myself, was not interested in them, and this article just re-inforced that feeling. They are amazing cameras in what they do and offer, but not yet fully refined to their potential. Maybe by the A8 or A9 upgrades they will have the competitive edge. As of now the lens issues are paramount to their shortcomings.
You can read the review yourself if you are interested, its really not all that long and very well written.

It's an interesting camera, in terms of technology, but the lack of native lenses, poor AF, and no built-in IS system is what made me shy away from it. I'm sure it suits the needs of some...just not mine.

Yes, the lack of an IS system is a problem since the Sony lens line doesn't have it either.

What were they thinking?!!! Build it and they will come. Sometimes getting out front can get you lost if none follow. When I read the initial release notes these were my thoughts also since I shoot Sony cameras and have the non IS lens. I like the way Sigma includes OS in their lens regardless of the camera brand but when Sony changed the mount it denied the use of these OS lens. I don't understand why Tamron doesn't include IS in all their lens but charge the same price with and without it.

I expect there were engineering limitations with the A7/A7R in working the IS into the camera. I doubt they made the decision lightly.

I haven't used a Sony but have the new Olympus OMD-EM1 which is mirrorless and there are plenty of lens options and as for image quality, it surpasses any DSLR I have owned. It's small, light and the electronic viewfinder is a phenomenal tool. Good luck.

Actually, the Sony lenses for the NEX (E-mount) are stabilized, and the new lenses that Sony has announced for the A7/A7R are stabilized as well. I'm disappointed that they have abandoned the body stabilization, but I imagine that there were issues with the size of the body that influenced that decision. I am heavily invested in Sony equipment, and it appears that I will probably go with the A99 for several reasons, not the least of which is the in-body stabilization.

Thanks for posting, it was a more comprehensive review than what I had so far. I was disappointed though when he brought up he was offered a coupon to purchase an adapter. That was not the case with me, no one mention that.
I kept hearing about E-Mount and FE-Mount. Now I understand better I have to look for FE-Mount, E-Mount is for people that are using NEX lenses right?
I purchased a Sony HVL-F60M flash (more things to learn) now I need a Pocket Wizard to trigger that off camera (more things to complicate my life/brain).
I shoot mostly landscape and portraits that I use in my oil paintings. Want to purchase another lens (I have Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 lens with the camera) and considering 35mm f/2.o since it is very small. I am not sure which lens will be better for me. I am enjoying this camera. I love the EVF & the sharp colors.
