Follow the instructions in the link. The camera menu may not show an update option, but the firmware can be updated.

Are you experiencing a problem that an update will correct ?....Just because there may be an update out there doesn't mean you need to install it...

The update may be necessary to use an aftermarket GPS or other accessory. With my D300 I discovered that one GPS will work but another won't, though it'll work on another D300- it has a more recently updated firmware than mine. Lesson learned. Even years later there may be an update.
