Next weekend I will heading up to NH to the annual Model T Snowmobile gathering.

I would like some tips to improve my pictures in the difficult setting.

Camera is a Sony A350 with a Sony 18-70 lens.

Photos from 2012 are here:

It looks like a lot of fun... It is great to see how creative folks were back 100+ years ago! Those rigs are just fabulous pieces of engineering!

Disclaimer: I am not an expert. However, from what I've read, white balance will be an issue. Your camera may have a setting for snow... Or, you may need to adjust the white balance yourself. Beyond that, is the issue of over-exposure due to the sun reflecting off the snow, which may wash-out some detail. There are probably some online resources or some other UHH folks that can better guide you.

Good Luck!

Shoot from a low position so the snow does not control arp.

This is a very difficult situation.
I think I would try using HDR. Since the vehicles are not moving. expose once for the snow then again for the blackest part of the vehicle. Blending the two should give reasonably good results. Another approach might be to set the exposure for 18% grey. The palm of your hand makes a good approximation of the 18% grey.
