I am looking for a small camera for my wife to carry in her purse when we are on trips. She is not into photography like I am but would like a camera that had some creative ability. Prefer something light with a fast lens. I currently use a Canon 60D and a Nikon P500 so I am fond of those brands but are I am willing to consider most any brand name with a good reputation. I have no set budget but thought I could find something under $300 but up to $400 for the right camera. I really like the Nikon P330 but have heard that it will soon be replaced. I look forward to any recommendations that any of you would have. Thank you.
My DW bought a Panasonic LX-7 for that same situation. It took great photos, but didn't fit in her purse exactly the way she wanted it to. She sold it for a great loss. She would not give it to me! Then she bought a smaller Pansasonic ZS25 at Costco that fit her purse perfectly. I suggested she buy the more expensive ZS30 and she ignored me. After a trip to Europe, she was less than impressed with the ZS25, so she bought the new Panasonic GM1. We'll see how that goes. Yesterday she suggested she might like "Nikon quality".
Meanwhile, we bought our "not into photography" adult son a ZS30 like I said my wife should have bought. He does not have a purse, but his pictures of our grandchildren are wonderful. If he did have a purse, it would fit well.
The best choice is to let your wife pick it out. My experience as a camera fan and DH, is that I am usually wrong picking gadgets for my DW. It is better to buy flowers, jewelry or trips.
Good luck with this!
If She isn't into photography, it might be a better choice to pick one of the "s" series cameras from Nikon, the "P" series cameras stand for "performance" and are more geared for the camera enthusiast. My wife has a old Nikon s8100 that She uses a lot, their almost totally automatic and produces good photo's. The newer ones have a 10X zoom lens. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I always learn something from UHH post. What does the "s" series stand for?
I guess I was leaning towards the "P" series in case I wanted to borrow it. Thanks for your reply.
You'd have to save a bit more, but the Lumix LF-1 is a great compact camera.
For real compactness, try the Sony TX-30.
I like the Canon S110 (reduced price now because there's a new versionS120), which can be used as a fully automatic point and shoot, but also can shoot raw and be fully adjustablelike a DSLR. With a little Lowpro pouch and teeny tripod,
it goes everywhere with me.

Sony has many small capable cameras. The "fast lens" will raise the price considerably, though. Look at the features that different models offer, like Wi-Fi, GPS, in-camera panorama and HDR. Try them out in a store.
Sony's NEX series are excellent for travel. Small mirror less camera with a large sensor. You want the smallest camera with the biggest sensor. Image quality is very good. What is most impressive on the NEX-6 is that it can capture video at 60/fps at 1080i. This allows for slow motion affects.
