Can anyone figure out how this was accomplished? Where is/was the camera? It's on Homage to Escher. by Alexei Sovertkov

I don't mean to sound skeptical here, but it looks computer generated to me. The man seems a tiny bit cartoonish, if you know what I mean???? I could be TOTALLY wrong, because I'm a newbie to a lot of the special effects in photography, but that's the feeling I get when I look at it. It's an amazing picture, none the less.
If it truly "is" a photograph, my guess would be that the camera was in his hand in the foreground, and then he replace it with the reflected hand by computer art of some kind. If you'll notice, the reflected hand does not have any fingerprints! LOL!
Just my "humble guess"! I'm sure there are many out there who can offer a better one! :O)

You are probably right. But, WOW! It is a great job if it is!

the camera is photoshoped out of the image. Lots like a HDR with multiple exposures.
man in the ball is one image, then the background and ball another, merged together in photoshop.
So how did he get the camera out of the ball so GREAT!!!!!??????

I agree with MWAC but however it was done it is a great picture! Something ponder and try to duplicate when I have too much free time and get bored.

It's a wonderful picture, my photoshop skills are no where close to being 1/2 as good as it would take to pull this off.
There are many places the camera could have been, to guess would be just that a guess. (this is assuming this is a self portrait shot using a mirror).
The camera could also be mounted on a tripod pointed directly at the subject and his hand reaching (if not touching) the lens and photoshoping the camera out of shot would be un-neccessary.
Rest is photoshop magic.

The lighting on the wallpaper does not approximate the lighting displayed in the center pic (windows to left). My guess would be everything but the hand came from an 8mm fisheye shot with the subjects outstretched arm, then the hand and reflection was added in PP along with the wallpaper background. The hand and reflection could also have come from a person holding a Chrome sphere and just merged with the fisheye shot, Might take a few tries to get the alignment right on, but I don't think it would take a genius to do this, just some good Photoshop experience and time.
This appears to be a glass or crystal ball, not a chrome ball. The photographer is holding it in his/her hand and shooting through it at the subject. The subject's arm is extended with the subjrct's hand under the photographer's hand. No need for photoshop.

Yep only it's at least 3 photos. Fisheye lens effect. Tons of tutorials on it.

Lots of complex ideas; however, I tend to go with a more simple approach. A big fan of the KISS method!
Here is how I would make this image.
My new catch phrase is "wickedly awesome!" Wow and wow! My hat is off to this talented, clever and imaginative photog.
