Unfortunately sunshine won't make mold go away, but it can inhibit further growth and spreading by essentially killing it.

FD mount lenses (such as you have pictured) are fairly cheap nowadays - I've found and purchased quite a few from eBay for under $30, fully functioning without mold or scratches.

That's a bummer. Thanks.
But there's some more expensive FD glass on eBay as well:

Nice lens you have listed but price is too high for an FD mount. If it was converted you'd be in the ballpark. Good condition EF T/S are going for what you are asking for an FD, albeit 35mm, mount.

Did you notice that the 'no reserve' auction started at $25?

I did not. Really surprised how high this has been bid up. Saw one of these lens, FD 35mm TS, in the local shop for $199. I know the staff so probably could have bargained my way down to $150. Barrel was worn but glass and aperture were good. Figure I'd have to dump another $150 into an Ed Mika adaptor plus my time and labor or send it off for adapter/conversion, ~$350...

Opted for the used EF 90mm TS, good condition - $550, no adapter, no conversion, just start shootin'...... ;-)

What are you using the 90mm t/s for?

90mm is very sharp lens with nice bokeh, use it for day to day shots. I want to use it for close up/ macro. Finally got a set of used Kenko tubes so I can shoot macro in the spring. I posted a close up tilt and 3 position shift here:

An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Fungus can be prevented. I have a few little packets of desiccant in my lens bags. You can buy these on Amazon for cheap.

The mold will turn to dust and likely affect images.

As I understand it, the mold eats the coating on the lens elements thereby reducing the effectiveness of light transmission. If this is true then the lens element is permanently damaged and would need to be replaced.

This is a picture of an older manual focus Canon FD 28mm F/2.0 lens. The lens is in overall very nice shape - except for what has been developing inside of it.

What's your verdict? Garbage or worthwhile having it professionally cleaned?

Thanks!

I have no personal experience but I have read that fungus can actually etch the glass. If that has happened, it would probably make a better paperweight than it would a lens.

If that is the verdict then why not just take it apart and try to clean it up yourself. You haven't anything to lose. There are plenty of instructions on You Tube to take lens' apart. IMHO.

The white dots, especially since they form very obvious concentric rings, is far more suggestive of some sort of (terminal :-( ) delamination problem with one of the internal elements rather fungus. It’s true that the latter can appear as tiny white spots at times but the pattern is invariably random -- the little buggers simply don’t organize themselves such a regular way.

Place it in damp/warm place for a month, and perhaps you might use what has been grown to cure diseases; and thus be awarded the next Nobel Prize.
Good luck !
