A bird, unlike most have ever seen or experienced.
I was born and raised in Wyoming, and when I was a youth, their were all kinds of sage grouse. Their numbers have lessened, to the point, that they are now a threatened species.
But each spring, in a a certain and same place, called a lek, these birds come each morning to do their mating ritual. Following are a few photos I took in 20ll at one of the leks. This male came so close to me that many times I could not get his whole body in the frame of my camera. It truly was a close encounter and I hope a few of you will enjoy and appreciate this wonderful, unique grouse.
I will add about 6 or 7 photos so come back and see what his bird does.
Have a great day. BB

Like I mentioned, these birds gather early in the morning (before first light) at the lek and then begin to strut. That morning I got there very early, and still in the dark, and one of the males came right over by me, and thus some of my shots were with a flash, as it was too dark to shoot other wise. I took over a thousand photos that morning both with a flash and then when it got lighter without a flash. These are but a few I took that morning.
Thanks for looking and for the nice words. BB

Are they Grouse?
Yes, they are sage grouse. When I was kid we referred to them as sage chicken.

Great seT!!! Thank you for sharing them.
Fantastic shots of a bird I've never seen. Love all of his posturing and posing and especially like those tail feathers. All of the plumage is finely patterned but those tail feathers in #5 are extrordinary.
Those are fantastic. I have always wanted to see one, but the chances of that are slim to none. These photos are definitely the nest best thing. Thanks!
