Nifty Fifty Settings

Hi I have been reading all the post for a couple of months and you all have been really helpful to me, Thank you!
decided to registar .....now I have a question. I have a Cannon Rebel T3, and just got a nifty fifty for xmas!, I want to take some portrait shots of my boys for a new years card.....any suggestions on settings?

Try to use it in available light. I had Christmas Duty for the crowd as usual, and just stuck the 50 on, and set it on NoFLASH. In normal daylight, it seemed fine. These were just quick snaps, very little posed stuff since it was kids and Christmas eve...Don't even think I changed the WB. Just watch your DOF if you pose the kids - at f/1.8 it won't take much to get fuzzy.

o.k. so if I set the ISO to 100-200, put it in AV mode, leave white balance on auto or tungstun, and f1/8, should be good?
