Union Pacific Big Boy locomotive 4014, Great train.
They moved the Union Pacific Big Boy locomotive 4014 to the mainline to take it to Cheyenne WY to restore.
It is the biggest steam locomotive ever built.
I can't wait to see it run again.
If you have any photos of it please post them here. Thanks.
Here is a video of them moving it.

Been converted to burn oil. Same low grade they burn in large ships if I recall correctly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLd4sX2mYXc Are they truly going to put it back under steam? I spoke with Steve Lee several years ago about restoring a Big Boy and at that time he said it was cost prohibitive due to fuel costs and that they could not convert it to oil because they can not get the BTU's from oil as they can with coal. He also said that it would be very limited as to where they can run it due to size and weight. Something must have changed. I'm all for it.
Magnificent! When I was about 12 we lived in Chester VA about 1/4 mile from a small RR station, N and W I think. My brother and I would walk down to see the 7.13 PM come in, or roar by. Sometimes it would pick up a mail bag on the fly with a hook which snatched the bag off an arm. We'd also put pennies or small nails on the rails to get them flattened. IIRC the N and W ran somewhat streamlined locos on that rail. Diesel just isn't the same.
Until fairly recently there was an oil fueled steam engine pulling an excursion train on a regular schedule between Dillsboro NC and the Nantahala area. But, when we bought tickets on it this October we found that they were running diesel. The steam loco needed expensive work done, and finding qualified folks to do it was difficult. The excursion was still fun, but hardly the same. Who really wants to photograph a diesel loco?
If you want to see some truly fabulous pix of steam locos have a look at O Winston Link's works. Many of them have a truly surreal quality.

You've got to be kidding me! You are a train nut and you never heard of O. Winston Link? That is sacrilege! That is UN- American! He makes Ansel Adams look like an amateur! Lol. I have to give you a hard time!
There is a book out that tells how Link set up for his photographs. Absolutely incredible! The only modern photography that comes close are those National Geographic people who set up strobes in the Amazon and dress up like trees to get a once of a lifetime shot at night. Of a bug.

Oh. Sorry about the internet thing. Since you did not learn to read, I can see that my question about the library would be moot. Lol.
