Any advice for a plug in for Elements 9 for greater noise reduction. I find little results from the included filter noise reduction

Sounds like you are using too high an ISO setting for your shots if you get that much noise. Try a lower ISO setting, like 200 or 400.

You can try neat image as a plug in or stand alone.
They have a free demo version that works fine.

NeatImage is only available with PSE 10 compatibility, the OP has PSE 9.

Topaz DeNoise plug-in is excellent for removing noise while retaining detail. Works with versions 6-10.

As I stated it could also be used just fine as a stand alone.
Adjust your images in PSE 9 as desired, then do the NR with Neat Image.

Topaz Labs has 30 day free trials on all the plug-ins they offer, try Topaz DeNoise and you won't look for another. I have a D200 and it can get quite noisy especially in low light conditions. No problem removing it with this plug-in. That's the first I do in PP is removing the noise.

I do not know which ones are compatible with E9, but here are some that work well:
NIK Define,
Noiseware professional
Noise Ninja
Neat Image

If you Google "Photo noise reduction" you can do some research.

i've used it as a standalone app for years, and it works quite well. it also works as a plugin with the following Photoshop releases:
Photoshop CS5.x (32-bit) / CS4 (32-bit) / CS3 / CS2 / CS / 7 / 6 / 5
Photoshop Elements 10 (32-bit) / 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4 / 3 / 2

I appologize. I went to the site and ended up with the v7.1 64 bit info, v7 comes in 32 bit and IS compatible with PSE 9. My mistake.

Neat image is compatible, as a plugin for PSE 9 I use it. The only draw back about the demo version of neat image, is it will only process a 1024x768 image; No Larger.

The noise repair filter in PSE 9, is not all that bad. Unless, you have a really bad noisy image. In that case any noise repair, will leave you without detail.

Topaz DeNoise....free to try: http://www.topazlabs.com/denoise/

Make sure you pay attention to the tutorials.

Works great for me in PS CS5....also works in Elements 6 thru 10. I shoot a lot of low light at ISO 1600 and run all thru DeNoise as a batch.

Look at my site for the results.

Their customer service is great. Once you own new versions are free.

Before you buy Google for Topaz coupons and save some $.

that must be a function of PSE, then, because i use the Neat Image demo as a standalone, and it works with any image size i want. i've used it on files from my 5D, which are 12.8Mp, and it works just fine.

I use Topaz DeNoise and for me it does the best job better than NIK Noise reduction plug-in

Thanks all for the good advice, I have a lot of work to do comparing the different programs.
