An egret romance on awry

I offer this sequence not as an example of the art of photography, but of the wonderful kinds of stories that play out daily in our yards in Florida - a photographer's paradise! I was just out the door to go on a run and an egret in breeding plumage apparently thought he spied a mate in my plastic egret in my front yard. He made an approach to the target of his romantic efforts only to be spurned. So as not to make the experience a total loss, he grabbed a resident lizard for a little snack, and gobbled it down as he made a retreat looking for a more willing mate.

They are so lovely in their breeding plumage and it must be great to have them visit your yard!

Great storytelling. Both you and the egret made successful "captures."

What a fun story,PM! Too bad for lizard but helped the egret save face. I've been in too many embarrassing situations and including mistaken identities and no luck finding a good exit!

I can relate, but this guy was pretty smooth dealing with the non responsive egret in my yard. Grabbed himself a lizzie and strolled off into the sunset (or sunrise in this case).

Your shots showed just exactly how the egret's white plumage can seem to glow. I love it.

I had never seen one grab a lizard, but I think he was trying to show off his hunting prowess to my plastic egret! :)
