I keep liking this photo a lot, but there's a nagging thought that maybe it really isn't very good or that it isn't as good as it could be. All comments will be appreciated.

I like it. If I were going to nit pick, I'd say that the small tree dead center is a bit distracting. I think I might also crop it with less sky. That would raise the horizon and get it away from center frame. Like I said, that is splitting hairs. This is a good photo.

Thanks. I agree about the tree, but I don't have the PP tools to remove it--only iPhoto right now.

This was taken with a Fuji Finepix S3000 (only 3mp) from a little over a quarter of a mile away. It's obviously cropped, using only about a third or fourth of the original.

My comments are best expressed visually. Cropped so that land, trees and sky each have 1/3 of the frame. Brightened, color saturation increased by 8 percent, and autosharpened in PSE12. Power poles, auto, and a few spots were removed. I think this crop keeps all your elements but pulls the photo in better. What do you think?

You have a nice improvement here. I like the top crop, but I do hate losing the clouds--mixed emotions, but you're probably right.

Ditto the other corrections, but the poles don't bother me because they are there, they are real. I always wonder if I should take them out or not. The photojournalist in me says to keep them; what little artist there is in me says to get rid of them. I appreciate your taking the time to do the editing. There's no doubt that for a wall hanging, yours is the better version.

It's always a matter of taste, and it's your photo, so you get to decide. I always lean toward the art side. At first I wanted to crop out the modern house but I was sure that was going too far. You could make one with less foreground and keep all the sky. It's all good! :-P

I felt right away the intention was accomplished showing the Red in contrast with the rest.
It just seemed a bit busy/noisy. and slightly unlevel. leveling did not help because the houses lean the other way but did not hurt.
I did remove a few items that I hope provides a cleaner look. moved the entrance to the brick home just around the corner because it was dark in there.
I would not touch the color controls on purpose.
The saturation seems like I said, in line with to be the subject.

Never considered removing the top but there was s bird or a smug I could not tell so I removed it.

It's hard to know what the subject is. My eyes kind of wander around the image, and I end up wishing I could see an image of just that old barn with the colored trees and the blue sky. That old barn is really neat.

I'll give the barn by itself a try if it ever warms up (-5 in the am & snowdrifts everywhere, travel emergency). It's too cold for me even to go out & take pretty snow pictures. Maybe in the spring.

Jay, snow drifts? That would be amazing. Bundle up, get your head and face covered. Dust off those snow shoes. Wear big chopper hits and tuck a pair of leather gloves inside your clothing next to your skin for shooting. -5 …. you can do it! Check out how the snow sparkles at -27F :-)

I'd say yes, there is a good photo in there. Here's an edit that tries to bring it out.

Lightened shadows (good for the trees), toned down highlights (good for the sky), selectively toned down saturation (in particular the red of the house), used content aware to move the bush in front of the house, cloned out the most distracting (i.e. the brightest) details of the poles etc. De-noised the sky. And cropped to keep as much of the context and sky as possible while bringing the houses a bit closer.

I'd love to, but some temporary (I hope) health issues are making me stay in during extra-cold weather--doctor's orders.

R.G. Thanks for working on the photo, especially for removing the bush. That's a good fix.
