Does anyone have a miracle method for salvaging these anhinga shots

I love anhingas and have endless shots of them in tack sharp focus. I also happen to have tons of shots of this particular anhinga who is banded and hangs out about a half mile from my house. I always get the typical drying his wings shots or other miscellaneous shots of him, but this time there was a bird encroaching on his territory. I did not see him and suddenly here he came screeching (I didn't even know they made that noise). I started firing, but alas I blew what would have been dramatic shots. Does anyone have some miracle means to salvage one of these? Please say there IS a Santa Claus! :)

The middle one appears reasonably sharp. What needs salvaging?

What really needs saving? Sometimes tack sharp can rob a scene of its energy. These are bristling with motion.

Excellent point, clh3RD, but the intentions, or desires, of the photographer were not clear to me.

I tried to do some small improvements on the third one, but I don't think it helped much if at all. Sharpened, tried to bring up the color more, cloned out a few things. My PP skills for this kind of thing are extremely limited. Posting anyway...

Thanks HT, comparing it with the original, yours is a considerable improvement. Here is my effort with #2.

You made that one better, too. Wish I could give you tack sharp. I think they are working on cameras that can do that.

That's probably about the best that can be done. I hate when that happens! :)

The bird in the last two shoots seems to pretty well in focus. What seems to be the problem is the darkness of the bird. Did you by an chance shoot these in RAW????? I downloaded one of the shots and there is some detail---but the file is really small. Now if it were in RAW. . .

Larry, I am new to this - just last summer, and I have just about arrived at the point that I realize that the way to shoot is in raw which I intend to commence doing in the near future. I lightened the body of the bird quite a bit, but seemed to cause noise.

Lightroom has some amazing tools that really can reduce a great deal of noise. But you have to ave the info on the file to work with. Make the switch to RAW it frequently pays dividends for those of us who shoot nature.
