I went out to check the mail and these three beauties flew right into my almost bare golden rain tree. I hustled back into the house, picked up camera, came out and captured them before the flew away. I believe these are Pileated Woodpeckers. Please help identify them. I hope you like them. Please try the downloads.

Beautiful birds. I especially like #1 with the wingspan. You did a great job on short notice.

You got that right Jim, great shots, love the Pileated Woodpeckers, I have three that hang out near home. #3 is the male, they have the red stripe on their cheek

Thank you John, these guys were skittish, but I really lucked out with them sticking around to allow those three shots. Thanks again for stopping by and for the comment.

Thanks gregory, I usually see these guys way back in the swamp and usually as they are going away. Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comment. Thanks also for the help on identification. I went to my bird book and thought they were Ivory billed at first. But hey I count myself lucky anyway.

If they were Ivory Billed ,Jim, your shots would be worth a fortune, somewhere in the million dollar range, keep looking, I know I am, maybe someday you never know

Thanks Sue for stopping by & the nice comments. I have on pretty good authority that these beauties are Pileated Woodpeckers. It's the first time I've been fortunate enough to capture these beauties.
