Red Dog Saloon

Red Dog Saloon, Juneau Alaska. Just happened to run across it in my Alaska folder. I just brought back some nice memories of my days when I was stationed there in the fifties. It was across the street from its present location, just one of those unique places, dirt floor full of peanut shells and tons of good times.

We were there in 2004. Quite a place, crowded, noisy, but what fun! Beer and appetizers weren't bad either! Truly an "old fashion western bar! I've got a photo of the saloon too . . somewhere!! Wasn't the dirt floor but the typical wooden floor that "klunked" when walking over it to the RR as well as the stairs squeaking loudly too!
Thanks for the recall and memories!
Dave

I was there in 2008--here's a peek at the inside.

Nice picture of the exterior. We were there in Aug. 2010, but it was such a lousy cold, rainy & dark cloudy day that the picture was so bad that I trashed it.

Paint the doors and change flags. In case anyone notices the two signs on either side of the doors on mine the dogs are facing the same way, there was an obstruction in front of the left door and sign so I copied and pasted the right door and sign to the left side.

This guy was the "greeter"
I'd be he has more tattoos than anyone you saw in the 50's

He looks thrilled to be there

If you remember the Red Dog from the 50's, you must know it was more than a saloon at the time. Nice shot. I have some slides showing the original. I'll try to dig them out.

Erbiv,

Me thinks you may be referring to this type emporium. In the 50's (at least early on) I probably would not have known it was any more than a gin mill had I seen it. :)
