DLSR .MOV files "stutter"

Using a Nikon D7000 in movie mode, the files are recorded in a .MOV file. When played back on the computer, the movie stutters. Like very short "buffering" breaks. It doesn't matter if it is played on Picasa 3.9, Nikon View NX, or windows live photo gallery. Any similar experiences out there? Any solutions?

Possibly need a faster memory card

Which shutter speed did you use when you recorded the Movie? If you use anything higher than 1/50 you will possibly get stutter.

Two possibilities come to mind. First, as already been mentioned, the speed of the memory card. The second possibility is the computer does not have the horsepower to play the file. There could be other reasons also.

I would copy the MOV file to your hard drive (don't try to play it directly off the memory card in the computer- the card speed and the access speed may not be good enough to play it smoothly plus you could wear the memory card out quickly doing it this way) then try to play it with Apple QuickTime Player. On a couple of my net books I have found that VLC Player (a free video file player- just Google VLC Player and you can find it) with play the file smoothly on a computer with less horsepower.

He's probably not coming back since they moved it and he doesn't know how to work the site yet.

It's not the memory card speed that's critical in any video replay. The limiting factor is how the .MOV file is processed. If the computer is an old single core or duel core and uses INTEL integrated graphics, then this computer probably needs more memory or larger setting for swap files. The speed of RAM memory is limited by the speed of the internal bus on the MOBO and the number of core processors and bridge circuitry as well as the type of video card or video chip set used. Sounds to me like a dedicated video card is required in this computer.
To make a proper evaluation however, we need to know what this computer consists of. (ie MOBO bus speed, CPU, video card, amount and type of RAM)
Also, try closing all background programs that are running on the system when playing video files and see if this solves the problem.
