Which Photoshop version (not Elements) ?

I have been using Photoshop Elements 7.0 for ages, and have Elements 10 but don't use it, mainly because 7 is familiar to me, (and also because I hate the overlay of thirds that i never figured out how to delete in 10).
I do minimal post processing, not very interested in doing pp acrobatics with my photos. After looking at some videos of CS5 and 6, am thinking it might be time for me to upgrade.
If I do, which Photoshop is best?

If you do not want PP acrobats stay where you are and learn to use PSE 10

I'll second that. It makes no sense to spend money on something that you already say you would not take full advantage of.

Perhaps you should look at Lightroom or learn PSE10 or better yet purchase PSE12 that is head and shoulders better than both seven and ten. ;)

OK. I suppose I should have asked about whether there are qualitative differences between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements programs.

Photoshop is a hundred times more powerful and complicated than PSE. If you aren't really into PP why would you want to spend $600 more for photoshop? ;)

If you were to upgrade...go for cs6...adobe is at least supporting that version for a little bit longer.
Personally I spend 90% of my time in LR doing minimal editing, and maybe 10% in photoshop CC when I need to do HDR work or some major cloning. LR is so much easier to learn and understand than photoshop, and I'm a graphic designer who uses it on a weekly basis.
Buy LR5, learn it (heck there's a 30 day trial), and use PSE10 when you need to do other work.

The Creative Cloud costs monthly, which starts cheap and goes up, but allows you to get all the software updates as they are made. I have spent a few thousand on Adobe, but I use essentially the whole suite professionally, thus, so it goes.

I think it's $9.95 monthly for CS6 and LR5. I have the full cloud and I love it.
