But I know nothing about macro lenses. So is it that I need a tube attachment? ...
I got my OM-D E-M1 just a few days ago and because I have several nice 4/3 lenses, bought the MMF-3 adapter with it (which yours is supposed to replace and therefore should have the same functions), so that I can wait for a bit and save up for M4/3 lenses.
I also have the 35mm 4/3 macro lens and in fact it was the first one I put on the adapter and on the camera. It goes on very easy, as do the onther Zuiko 4/3 lenses I have.
The photos are just fine with the 35mm macro, and they weren't even macro photos ;-)
When it comes to extension tubes, I had those for my (35mm film) Ricoh camera, they go between the lens and body as well, but are intended to use a "regular" lens as macro lens.
All they were really, were open tubes or rings, there was no glass in them, and all they did was move the lens away from the recording medium, film in case of the Ricoh, and if they are available for digital (I don't know if they are), away from the sensor.
They were sold in sets of three, (three different sizes) you could use any one of them or any combination of them.
And you would definitely not need them with the 35mm macro lens.
Of course, neither does the 4/3-to-M4/3 have any glass, and it also moves the lens away from the recording medium, but I believe the purpose here would be to make the distance lens-recording medium in m4/3 cameras the same as in 4/3 cameras.
Hope you haven't all fallen asleep yet....
