Thanks... I often wonder myself how we avoided being killed or killing...LOL... "I double Dog Dare Ya" was one of the most dangerous speech ever.... but we survived..

I loved that part of my life... Life was good, not always kind but Good..

Today kids have Helicopter parents.

These are the parents that join Facebook to see what nasty things their kids are saying about them.

They want to be their kids friends, not their parents.

We were given chores not X-BOX.

You were taught to be responsible and accountable, NO excuses.

Don't ever embarrass the family.

Study hard.

Be polite.

Obey the law, it's there to protect you too.

Care about the image you project, The first impression you give, if good,

OK, if bad, you'll never live it down.

Love your pets, they give you unconditional love.

Don't hang with the crowd, when things go wrong, they desert you and you'll be the one they blame.

Use your brain, think, explore, everyday is an adventure.

If your conscience tells you it's wrong, it probably is.

The truth may not always be popular, but it's still the truth.

Watch the others facial expressions and body stance, you'll learn to spot a liar.

The biggest sin of all, was to lie to yourself

Be kind and have compassion.

You are no better than anyone else, PERHAPS more fortunate, but not better.

Have personal aspirations.

You never learn from your successes, YOU only learn from your failures.

Accept failure as a reality check, learn from it, don't do it again.

Sad times. People think they are helping their children when all they are doing is setting them up for failure. We just hired a 21 year old kid. Good kid, and reliable, which is more than I can say for most kids that age. However, when told to train him how to do our job, I found out that first I had to train him how to "work" in general.

Well, first is the Parents, then the Kid and then the teachers...

Unless a child is taught discipline and responsibility at home all is lost for the most part
Unless the Child pays attention to those things taught by his parents, then he is lost for the most part
Unless the Teacher is able to take advantage of a child that has been taught discipline and responsibility, then her efforst are lost for the most part..

The problem is "My johnny / Julia is a good boy / girl,
he /she walks on water,
he / she would never do a thing like that,
he's / she's only a child
we give him/her everything he/she could want
It wasn't my child
why didn't the school say something?
Prove it!
Well, we work so hard to give him / her a good life.
My child doesn't do drugs
Pregnant, why didn't they teach about that in school?
She / he made him / her do it.

The list goes on and on, we've heard it all before.

Attitudes, values and behaviors begin at home.

Parents show your kids what accountability and responsibility "is" , even if presidents don't know what it "is".

Well, once again you condem "ALL" us old farts...... I raised 5 children.. Not a one was ever arrested for anything. ONE boy got a speeding/sass officer ticket when he was 16, One has a Doctorate in Child Psychology, One is a Rural Mail Carrier and One is a Stay at Home Mother...The fifth is permanently disabled with Lung disease...........

They were not raised by "Dr Spock" but by their parents common sense as to how people should act.... IT isn't difficult, but it has to be done...... It has never been a Public School Teacher's job to train up my child..it has always been my Obligation to send them to school prepared to learn, obey and graduate with good grades. The teacher does her part by "TEACHING" them, not NEEDING to discipline them

GOOD LORD,,, how did you get the above from what I wrote....... Every parent that raised their kids right, ended up with "For the most Part" children who did well in school and after... Parents that took no interest in how or what their children were doing ended up with "for the most Part" children who did not do well in school and after...

Exceptions to the RULE............Rule... But in general that is how things are... If you want to see a generation of Parents that are TRYING to raise their children right, look into the Home Schooling Community.... (some nuts of course) but also a massive amount of parents who are raising good, smart, polite and involved children.

I have 8 Grandchildren that are being and have been Home schooled. The oldest one has (among others) Full Ride scholarship offers from MIT and the Air Force Acadamy. I believe he is going to MIT, but he has not actually said yet. These are scholarships based on his intelligence... although he has also been offered scholarships to Vanderbilt, Stanford and North Western which include his ability as a Pitcher and First Baseman..........

Children excell or not, to a great degree, in relationship to how much his/her parents are involved in their lives..

We actually lost the generation of Parents first and then Lost the generation of children..
