I had a delightful morning having encountered two, delightful baby pelicans. When I first found them, they were shivering and cuddling up to one another and mom was nowhere in sight. Later, when I returned, mom was there and the pelicans were up and around. They were incredibly attached to one another always cuddled up whether they were standing or squatting on the ground. It was interesting to note that they play like they are young puppies, biting each other, etc.

The first shot shows them hugging each other with wings spread.
In the second, they are nuzzling each other. In the third, in which the young one is unfortunately out of focus, one goes up to mom for a discussion. In the 5th shot, it was neck biting time! The next one, I believe one of the youngsters is telling mom that he thinks it's time for a little sushi. And finally, to add to the overall treat, I found a mother on a nest with babies under her. Unfortunately, I never got a shot of the babies that she was sitting on.

All in all, as much as I encounter pelicans, this was my first encounter with babies - these were approximately 4-5 weeks old. I also photographed a couple that were about 2 months old, but they were in a large group with adult pelicans.

Do you think I had a fun morning. Right!! :)

Great shots Mate...as they say, a face only a mother could love...funny how all baby birds are so ugly but grow into things of beauty...
