Canon Low Pass Filter Question

From what I can find out most current DSLR's utilize a low pass internal filter to eliminate the IR spectrum. Digital sensors can be negatively affected by IR. I've been in the habit of using UV/IR cut filters but now it appears that the IR portion of the filter is overkill. While researching my current camera, a Canon 70D, I saw a reference to the low pass filter that indicated it also blocked UV. Haven't been able to verify that. Anyone have any info? I don't mind buying filters if they give the proper result, but I don't want to waste my money either. Too many other camera toys out there waiting to be bought! Thanks for any input.

UV are already blocked by the lens coating...

The low pass filter use is to prevent the moire effect due to the sensor pixel organization. The result is a loss of sharpness and color confusion.

This goes for all cameras and not only Canon.

From Fuji's literature for X-Trans sensor with no optical low pass filter - "Since UV filtering is carried out at the camera body (by a sensor), we boldly made a filter specifically designed to protect the lens that is completely colorless and transparent so that description is not negatively affected."
