I use, and recommend the Wimberley foot. Will it also not work with this head?

MT, Thanks for the detailed description. I, too, would love to hear about any comments you might have after using the new setup for a while. On the technical side, do you think the lock pin device might work with a Vanguard QR plate (which is designed for use with a lock pin)?

I have no idea as I have yet to see a single Vanguard head or tripod in use in the field, at least not in any of the areas of the West that I have shot in my lifetime.

I may have missed something but why would you purchase a head that in not compatible with the standard Arca Swiss & RRS mounting plates? For me that just would not work since everything else I own is set up for the others.

Thanks

As I stated in my narrative above, the Wimberley plates will not lock into this head. Nor will Kirk or RRS or any other plates I have access to as none of them have the grooving to work with the locking pin retainer system on this head. I have been in contact with the factory already concerning this and they have said they are considering a standardized ARCA mount as an option, but will not be abandoning the current system. I have to agree with their choice as I really do like the system they are offering as a secure mounting for expensive lenses.

As I have already stated, they fit, but will not use the safety lock system. They hold fine once you have screwed the lock down tight to hold them, same as any other ARCA clamp.

Thanks, MT. I just wanted to be sure I was reading you right. I hope you can convince them to offer an ARCA option. Looking forward to your reports.

Thanks again MT. I'll be in Yellowstone June 3-8. Do our schedules overlap? I'm assuming you'll be testing the head on your trip.
How far from I-94 is your shop? I may stop there if I can't catch you in Yellowstone.

I will be there giving a seminar through June 4th, the head will likely be with me as well as a selection of lenses.
My store is 4.5 miles off I94
