Olympus OMD ME5: Finding a lens adapter

Can you help me find a lenses adapter for this lens?

* The camera is an Olympus OMD ME-5.
* The lens is a Vivitar series 1 70-210mm 1:2.2X f3.5. Universal thread mount 42 mm. It also says on the box 67 mm.

If I can find a lens adapter that is not expensive I will try to use this lens. I do not think it is worth while spending more than $100 for an adapter. I will simply wait until I can afford other "after market" lenses.

I also want to get a Macro lens. Any suggestion what size I should
be looking at?

Recently I bought additional batteries. The cost of an Olympus brand battery was $39.00 I bought "after market", two batteries plus a charger that can be used in my car or home, here and in Europe all for $25.00!

Though I seldom say this, I'd suggest you Google this one yourself and really study it unless someone gives you some very specific info, especially if you're thinking about going for the expensive ones. You might also want to post your question on an M43 specific site like the m43 section of DPR, where you're likely to find a number of people who have actually done what you're trying to do. I found OM to 4/3 adapters ranging from $17 US to $200 US on a variety of sites. I think this is what you'll need but don't trust me on this. It appeared people were getting good use of this lens on Olympus m43 cameras, but with that kind of range in price, I'm sure there is range in quality as well, there always is. There has to be a reason for such a range.

On your batteries, just keep an eye on. Some of the aftermarket batteries are better than others. The ones I got worked OK for a few months then started to swell, unfortunately one was in the camera when this happened, and it was a real chore to get it out. Within a week after this both batteries were shaped like footballs and weren't going inside of any camera. I have never seen anything like it. But one of my photo friends had great luck with a different aftermarket brand and has had a year's worth of use from them.

The EM5 is a whole lot of fun. There's good m43 macro lenses available like the Oly 60 but they're pricey. I've got along pretty well with the 12-50 kit lens which has a good macro function. I just got a little add-on adapter for the 40-150 for almost nothing that lets me use it for macro, and it's been kinda fun. It really depends on your budget. I tried using the old Olympus 35 macro with an adapter on the EM5 but this was a dismal failure for me. The 35 works quite nicely on my EM1 though.

I have the same Vivitar lens, it's Series-1,70-210mm F3.5 MF zoom lens with Nikon F-mount which I used on my Oly. micro 4/3 E-PL2 camera. It has a close-up ability to 1:1/2.2. It is a very sharp old lens.
You can get a M42 to Micro 4/3 adapter from Amazon. They have all kind of lens adapter and very cheap, I got mine for less than $25.

You might consider posing your question on this 4/3 forum - Since it's exclusively dedicated to 4/3 and m4/3, you'll find a lot of resources & answers there for Oly issues. http://forum.fourthirdsphoto.com/forum.php

Go to www/keh.com and take a look at the the various manufactors 35mm lens manual focus listings, you find just about any marco you want... Nikon 55mm f2.8's, 105mm f2.8's & 4's, OLympus 50mm macros f3.5's, canons etc... not a lot of money....
and if you don't like it you can return anything for full refund and they pay for shipping on the return...

for the adapter let me suggest a Metabones adapter reason being they are very well made and most of all they come with a tripod adapter built into it so that your not hanging all that weight on the body of your camera and also stabilizes it too.. $99.00 but you get what you pay for....

It's often hard to find info on some of these old Vivitar lenses. I got involved with a couple. This web site RobertsTech Media, put up an extensive web review page on these Series 1 70-210.

It appears that Vivitar (they are a marketing company, not a lens maker) spec'd out a number of this focal length zoom lens and acquired/sold them from a number of manufacturers.

This web site reviews a number of the top contenders. It also details by the first two characters of the Serial Numbers which manufacturer made YOUR lens.

I know you are asking about the adapters. It should not be too difficult to source an inexpensive thread mount lens for LTM, M39 and M42 mount. There were thousands built in thread mount.

I just thought you might like finding out where you are in the quality scale of the 70-210 before spending money on the adaptor. Near the highest demand lenses were by Kino and Kiron if I recall:

I looked at that Amazon website and the prices are not bad at all. From my own experience I will say that I ordered two Fotosay adapters to m4/3, one was for Contax C/Y the other for Pentax PK. The Contax is working well and seems to be solidly built. The Pentax is also solid and looks good but it throws the focus off by quite a margin so it obviously is not the right length. For my Pentax lenses I went back to using a 4/3 adapter with a Lumix 4/3 to m4/3 adapter. That combination works well. Alternatively, Fotodiox seems to be well thought of and I have a few of their adapters to 4/3 that are fine.

Good evening,

I took your information and ordered this adapter. It arrived today and it fits perfectly. Can i only use this lens on manual or can I use it on other settings?

Thank you for your help.
