Nice shot. You could improve it by moving the dogs head more to the right giving him room to look into the picture instead of looking out of it. The color and density is very good! Have fun with your new camera.RRS

Generally, very good. I would like to see less empty space on the right and more on the left. Your directional light is good but too harsh. Note the hard shadow and the puppy squinting. A diffuser or bounced flash would help here. Your exposure is spot on. Note the black-hair areas where only the reflected light will show. Very good!

Thanks, OddJobber. Molly was lying in the sun on the floor when I grabbed the camera and just took the shot. Really like being on this site as I hope to get a lot of good advice.

Tell the dog to smile. All kidding aside, very nice shot - I like the lighting on your dog. I'll second OddJobber's comments.

This is a fine shot of your dog. I would have liked you put more space before him and less behind him. It now looks like he's leaving the photo rather than coming into it. But by using available light you have brought out his rich colors beautifully.

Nice shot. Luv Molly. Had a dachshund and miss her...blew a disc and recovered after a very expensive surgery, then blew another one more seriously a few years later...R.I.P. :(

Fabulous photo. If you have photoshop you can extend the canvas size to the left and add more black to that side. I know its post processing but it will do the job nicely.

Very nice first post! And for an off the cuff shot, not to bad. I am just going to stay go with what the others have said.:) Keep posting and asking. The only way you can learn, is to get help from all the great folks here.

Oh how I miss my dachshund Oliver, had him for 14 years.
Agree with everyone, more space to the left, otherwise great picture.
