That's an impressive demonstration. It would be interesting to see an opposing presentation to get another viewpoint. Lacking that, this guy makes a strong argument.

Yes it is.
If we cut in half the numbers stated, how in this world can anything be done about it?
One thing I wonder about this two dollar income is how much these people do have in food grown by themselves and items bartered for that never comes into the economic side of the statement.

Vivid demonstrate! The immigration mess is a political football that for dems means more voters - period (to use Obama's catchphrase of the decade).
Shame we can't get congress to watch that video.
Interesting presentation. The problem is that very few, probably most, of our politicians do not understand the mentality of the people in the foreign countries and trying to impose our ideas on them, irrespective of the good intent, creates a hostile environment which often results in us being viewed as the "ugly Americans". Pumping money into these countries is a losing proposition since most of it tends to be diverted to the pockets of thieving politicians and despots. Most of the missionaries who go to these foreign countries do more harm than good with their proselytizing. They would probably be better served by trying to help solve problems within their own countries but they appear to be dazzled by the glamor of foreign travel. Try preaching birth control in societies where plural marriages are a way of life. China did to a certain extent but most foreign countries do not have governments strong enough to make that happen. Thomas Malthus , as I recall from my economic classes at the London School of Economics in the late 1950's , put forward a theory that populations would outstrip their means of subsistence and would eventually be controlled by starvation, wars, pestilence and resulting deaths. He received a lot of criticism for his publications but there were a lot of economists who were advocates of his views. Maybe Malthus will be proved right in a lot of these developing countries and there is not a whole lot the US will be able to do about it. Some may think that this a hard hearted view but I think that we need to start taking a good look at and solve our own problems before trying to solve the problems of the world. Just my thoughts on a very complex problem.
I can see why. Very good demonstration. This is probably something that the average citizen has never really thought about other than maybe a passing thought. It should be given serious consideration by the American people, especially the government. American simply cannot accomodate everyone. Good post DePratt! Thanks for sharing.
