Hello to all. My name is Randy h. I've been lurking for some time. I'm in Calif. I just recently let go of my Canon g12. I've just been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in my hands!
I'm looking at the Oly XZ-1 to replace the Canon. Is there anyone with knowledge of the Oly XZ-1? Is this the right camera for me? I really don't want to be without a camera. Any ideas or suggestions?
Happy Holidays and thanks for your time, Randyh :D

I have an idea that may help you. With peripheral neuropathy in your hands, I assume you're having trouble with camera shake. If that's the case, this is what I've found helps quite a bit. I bought a shoulder mount from George Lepp (google him). It works like the stock on a rifle with the camera mounted on the end of it, it's very adjustable and it gives you a nice solid base. It's even better if you can find something to steady yourself against such as a tree, railing or a wall. When I need even more help I attach a light weight, collapsible monopod to the front of the shoulder mount right under the camera. That setup is almost as stable as a tripod, but it's a lot easier to carry around. This setup has another advantage. Lepp also has a pair of arms that attach to the shoulder mount. They allow you to mount two flash units about 12 to 18 inches on either side of your camera. It's a great setup for serious macro and closeup work.

Again, welcome from the feminine side of The Hog. That set-up LazyOldCoot is talking about sounds like something anyone could use. Wonder if I can figure out how to get these little square bulbs attached to the arms....mmmmmm.....gonna have to think a bout that one a while. :) Have fun here with all these cool folks, and show us some of your work!!! Especially, if you get this gear, come back and tell us about it. Sounds like it has 'steady-cam' beat by a mile!! I always wanted one of those.
