Gay marriage and gun control

This is an outside perspective on American gun issues. There are a lot of people here in Ireland who see access to guns as a stupidly ludicrous thing, however that's a position taken from a very short sighted view.

Access to guns is a uniquely American thing (amongst first world countries anyway.) Here in Ireland we would never dream of giving people access to guns, and we don't want it. Guns are not for personal defence, farmers and hunters have access to them but they must be under lock and key and random inspections to unsure proper firearms handling and care are common. Our police force is not routinely armed and only special units amongst the police force have access to them. This comes from a time after a civil war when giving the police weapons would have made them targets. The name for our police force literally translates as "Guardians/Keepers of the Peace" and when guns were floating around after a war it was felt it was better for people to police using community efforts and appealing to common understanding than through force.

With all that explained some people here can't understand why there's such free access to guns in America (especially machine guns and assault rifles.) However that fails to take into account America's history with gun ownership. I think this puts America in a unique position that will take a uniquely American solution to solve.

I have, actually, already read a number of books on logic. I was hoping we could discover some common ground in our interest in logic. :) :) :) Which books on logic have you enjoyed?

Croce, do you really want to know? Ha, ha! If you don't use it you lose it. Some religions view masturbation as allowable if used as a means towards sexual self-control, or as part of healthy self-exploration, but disallow it if it is done with wrong motives or as an addiction. I would never join any religion that wouldn't allow me to play with myself. I wish I were born gay. Homosexual men get more sex than heterosexual men.

I don't think anybody as incoherent as you can be persuaded, no, but it's still worth pointing out bigotry and ignorance. At the same time, I can enjoy worthwhile, cogent debate with intelligent posters like Blurryeyed.

You're perfectly capable of ignoring our posts if they irritate you. I find it quite amusing how this forum considers any dissenting opinions to be trolling.

It's hard to argue when the entire crux of the opposition is "we don't care, shut up." :)

Still waiting for a single person to admit voting for an anti-gay marriage constitutional amendment. I'm wagering there's more than one.

Did you vote yes on Oklahoma Question 711 in 2004?

Personally I voted no on Oregon's Ballot Measure #36. I'm not afraid to say this in public.
