I used a 24mm f/2.8 Nikon lens in a reversed position many years ago. The 24mm was supposed the be good for this type of application because it had a perfectly flat rear lens element which reduced distortion. Using an older, non automatic lens, may actually be better because you can set the aperture manually. I also used a bellows with the 24mm mounted backwards. The magnification was incredible but, the depth of field was about the thickness of a razor blade and lighting the subject (without a ringlight) was very difficult due to the very, very close lens to subject distance. Sure was fun though!
Good heavens ..............I used the 52mm lens reversing ring on my 50mm f/2 Nikkor lens in the early 1960's, before I had enough money to get the 55mm f3.5 macro lens. To advertise as a 'Little - known secret technique'. is laughable. Next thing to be un-covered by these people, will be the 52 x 52 double mounting ring to connect the camera mounted 135mm lens to a reversed 50mm lens...for real macro work. But that is my/our little secret...do not spread the word.

Amen. I carry a reversed 50mm and a reversed 28mm with me on a regular basis; I use "obsolete" film-camera lenses so that I have the ability to adjust the aperture as needed.
I'm glad others are invited to learn this technique; but it ain't new, little-known, or secret.
