Does any one have a Nikon FG Service and Repair Manual that they no longer need, and would be interested in parting company with it
I have been there. The manual I need is the "Service and Repair Manual aka "shop manual" I want to know what do do to repair or replace the camera interior viewing lens. In essence how to disassemble the camera and put it together again correctly.

Sometimes they have disassembly videos on YouTube, but not for your camera.
One tip: If you do decide to take it apart, get a set of Japanese screwdrivers. They look like Phillips, but they're slightly different. Amazon has a good assortment.
Thanks Jerry. I will follow your good advice.
i'm a little confused.
when you mention the camera viewing lens are you speaking of the camera's mirror, the pentaprism or the focusing screen?
please let me know, i just may be able to assist you with an fg manual.
cody
Pentaprism, looking thru the view screen there are some wide lines that are not standard they are not on the mirror and can not be removed with lens cleaner and an approved lens cloth. I have a spare body that looks good thru the view system but don't have the savvy to take the critter apart and re assemble it correctly.
let me check with Erv and i'll get back with you. i think i know what it is, but... i want to be sure before i say anything.
Great did I mention that it wass not in the mounted lens ?
yes, you did. i'll get with Erv on monday and see if we can come up with something for you.

hi, and sorry for the late reply, not a good day for me yesterday. Erv did a little brainstorming and came up with this: the lines you are seeing may be caused by the disintegration of the foam sealing the pentaprism glass to the metal portion of the prism. he does not believe this is caused by any deterioration of the prism glass, itself.
the problem lies in repairing this. in his opinion, it would cost more than the camera is worth at today's prices.
sorry i don't have better infor for you, but do hope this helps a little. the condition should not actually interfere with your focusing and taking pictures.
good luck!
I have a spare FG for parts but don't have the know how to disassemble the camera or I should I say disassemble both cameras, to replace the section that is bad. then reassemble the good unit. That is why I need the service manual to help me there. Hope I can find one with directions. I have been searching the net but so far no luck.
hi again,
let me get with Erv and see if he has a repair manual for the FG. it will probably be about tuesday before i can get back with you.
will write then.
cody
apologies for the late reply - weather issues in the great midwest.
checked with Erv and he did not have one for the FG. sorry about not being able to assist you with this. perhaps one of the other members can come to the rescue.
I sure hope so! Thanks for the effort though.
