Does any one have experience using a Vello adaptor to resurect FD lenses for use on a 7d. If so whats the best way to set the lens ? Wide open and let the camera set other functions or manual ? I know I will loose auto focus in any event. I will only get about $15 per lens if I would sell them to B&H or Adorama so buying the adaptor would be a better way to go. Thanks for any help.

I don't know about the Vello adapter, I have the Fotodiox FD-EF adapter with the removable corrective lens inside the adapter. The corrective lens allows the FD lens to focus to infinity. To do macro photography, the lens is removed.
I have a lot of FD lenses I use with my AE-1 Program that I plan on keeping.
I got the adapter to play around with the old FD lenses with the 50D. I think it does a pretty good job.
Here is an example of a cat in the back yard.

I have the Fotodiox Konica to Canon EOS adapter but have same issue as you are asking, no auto focus and no auto exposure. Obviously you will have to manually focus. For exposure you can either use aperture priority and let the camera set the shutter speed or you can go full manual. In the Canon that still leaves two options, I can use an external light meter for calculating shutter speed or I can use the camera's meter and use the exposure compensation display to set shutter speed by cranking the shutter speed dial to EV(0) as a work-around. I would expect you can do something similar on your Nikon.
There are two other things to consider. I believe the Vello adapter has an internal lens to achieve infinity focus with the FD lenses, same as on my Fotodiox adapter. This is a magnifying lens, so you will get some image magnification. On my Fhotodiox-Canon combination, this magnification is about 1.4X. For example, my 50mm Konica lenses have an apparent focal length of 70mm when used with the adapter, along with about 1 F stop reduction in effective aperture. You will see something similar.
The other issue is image quality. You have a $35 adapter with a lens element inside so at that price you are not getting Zeiss quality glass in the correcting lens. Expect some image degradation. I did some rough tests and found that the Konica-Fotodiox-Canon gave me image quality roughly equivalent to my Canon camera with my Canon 18-55mm kit lens - acceptable, but not as outstanding as I would have expected from the high quality lenses. But overall I am satisfied, the adapter was fairly inexpensive, it puts my Konica lenses to use and gives me more options with my Canon camera.
