I took a photo in which the background was in sharp focus and the main subject in very soft focus. I performed some PP in Photo Elements 12 to see if I could sharpen the subject, no luck other than bad luck and a lack of skill. So here is an example of what not to do.

Goof up in PP

My eyes are not what tey used to be, but the image you labelled as "Original" looks over saturated and the PP image looks sharper and more true colors to me. But I am a musician and amature photographer, soit may just be my opinion alone. LOL

Post processing has helped in a lot of my poor to average originals. Challenge me and I will post some.
As regards your second image, I would select the bird, increase contrast and sharpen it. Then inverse the selection and blur the background.

Okay Chinaman, consider yourself challenged, I would love to see that bird sharpened somehow. I wonder if PS Elements have all that capability, I sure am gonna try. Thanks for viewing and the comment.

Good morning tradio, thanks for viewing and the comment and I guess I could say I wish it didn't happen to me but all too often it does especially from a rocking boat. Have a great day and New Year.
