I live in San Diego, CA and less than a mile from my house is a local hill called Mount Soledad. On top of Mt. Soledad is a cross and a nice memorial to those that have fought and fallen in service for our once great country. Now some folks think that this is just not right and want the cross removed. As a Vietnam vet and an American citizen, I believe this is an outrage. If you care to, Google "Mount Soledad Cross" and see more about this matter.

Agree.
I also believe this is an outrage.
If we allow them, the liberals will destroy America.

What a shame. With all that is going on in our country these days, I sometimes feel like it's not even America any more - Then I remember "God is still on the Throne." Thanks for the post! Mike J.

Thank you for the post! I Agree with you. I too am a vet and I am sick and tired of all who want to destroy what others have tried to do to Honor the Vets. Just what the people the next time you are at a parade, and see how many people stand up and salute the American Flag as she passes by. The American Flag and the Cross should Not Be Messed with. It is time to tell these people, if you Don't want to Honor the American Flag and the Cross, take a hike and leave this country, Do Not Return!!! First is was the Bible and prayer in school, next is was the Dishonor of the American Flag and our troops from Viet Nam, then it was the removal of the Creche at Christmas, now some ****** wants US to do away with Santa Clause, as a human and make his likeness in the form of a penguin. It is Time to tell these ****** to take a hike and never come back. Sorry but I am fed up with this bull s**t. Please excuse my language.

Your language is fine with me, I think we still have some freedom of speech.

It's real easy. Is the cross on public land? If yes, then it should go. If it's on private land it should stay. This is a no-brainer.

Why? The first amendment clearly says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" there is nothing in that statement that prohibits anything religious from being placed, or being done on public land, or even at public expense for that matter. If you bother to study the words of the framers, they had no intention of the above statement being the cause of the sort of foolishness that passes as "separation of church and state" in the mind of today's liberals.

Many claim that Jefferson was a Deist and not Christian and that he advocated said separation, but these are but lies of modern liberals and atheists. There is ample record of Jefferson's Christianity for those who look, but lies are so much better to make an erroneous point. On just such a question as the OP Jefferson said: “The rights [to religious freedom] are of the natural rights of mankind, and if any act shall be passed to repeal [an act granting those rights] or to narrow its operation, such act will be an infringement of natural right.” – Thomas Jefferson, Statute for Religious Freedom, 1779. Papers, 2:546

So clearly Jefferson saw no right of government for the suppression of any religious expression, and as for "offending" the non-believers, surly no one is really so thin skinned as to be offended by what others believe. Another great Jefferson quote is: “The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” – Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781-82

The only possible motivation for the non-believers and other secularists to object to, or claim offense to a cross that has stood for nearly 60 years, is simply to force their views on others. There is nothing offensive about a cross, and who cares of it sits on state land or private land, it's been there 60 years, get over it. The Christians are forced to accept our belief in abortion, so why can't you accept their cross?

So you would have no problem if someone put up a Star of David next to the cross to honor our Jewish servicemen and women? How about a Crescent Moon to honor our Muslim servicemen and women?

(Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court let stand a ruling that a large Christian cross as part of a war memorial in California violated the constitutional ban on government endorsement of religion.

The cross has been the subject of litigation since 1989 when two veterans sued San Diego in an effort to get it off city land. In 2006, Congress intervened in the dispute, resulting in the federal government taking ownership of the property.

A group of plaintiffs, including the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America, then sued. A U.S. appeals court ruled for the plaintiffs that the dominance of the cross in the memorial conveyed a message of government endorsement of religion.

The Obama administration and a group called the Mount Soledad Memorial Association, which erected the cross, supported by 20 states and various veterans groups, appealed to the Supreme Court in arguing the cross should be allowed as part of the memorial.

How about a statue in tribute of The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

Thanks for that enlightening post. Much better than the original OP who made it sound like a bunch of godless atheist communists, hellbent on destroying the country, have now gained control of the country and we are all going to hell because of them. Nice to know that people who are actually affected by this display (Jewish service members) are behind the original lawsuit. Thanks again for the real history behind all of this.

It's on public land? Then for once the Supreme Court is right.

Tear it down.

No problem. Star of David and the Crescent moon, why not, as long as they fought and died for the United States. I'm for that!

I have no problem at all with that, they fought for you and me (assuming that you are a legal US citizen) to have the right to express our opinions. You need to learn the proper use of adjectives and adverbs. QED
