Question about two lens for D7100

I'm about ready to buy a Nikon D7100 and a friend of mine wants to sell his Nikon F3 film camera and lens. He's willing to let me have the camera, 300mm prime lens (1:4.5), 50mm prime (1:1.4), two 1.4 X magnifiers and a SB17 flash for $300. Both of the lens are 1980's vintage and their both in Great shape.
My question is would these two lens be a good match up for the 7100?
Should I buy these for the 7100 I want to buy or should I save my money and buy newer glass??

Thanks
Lee

So what's it really worth??
B&H offered him $260 and he knows it's worth more. He's only selling the camera to me at that price because I a good friend.

The lens you're mentioning will work on the 7100 (Good camera).Don't know if they will auto for sure but my guess they will. The person to answer your question with a lot of knowledge would be MTShooter. A true fountain of knowledge. If they are prime lens ,I'd be tempted to snatch up especially the 300. good luck and happy shooting with your new equipment. I have old lens that will focus auto and I use them quite often on the 7100.

You did not tell me enough about these lenses for me to answer your question. Are the lenses autofocus? If so, they will work fine on your new 7100. If not, are they Ai or Ais? If they are, then you can use them and manual focus them on your 7100. If they are not, then you will have to have them modified to work with your 7100. I hope this helps. Merry Christmas!

You will have to use them in full manual, if they are not Nikons, don't bother. As for the flash, it might damage the body if you try to use it (check Nikon support). Also the 7100 won't do any of the ttl flash functions, you would be better off using the built-in flash. I think you should consider the 55-300/4.5-5.6 DX VR. Its less than $400 at B&H if you buy it alone. There is a Nikon kit with a wide angle and this lens included.

very similar only this one does not have the gold ring. I believe this one is a external focus. Both lens are Nikkor.
Is there a web site that I can look up the serial number and find out what he has??

I was originally going to buy the D7100 kit that has both the 18-55 and 55-300 lens. then these lenses came available and I was wondering if I might be getting a better lens and save some money. If I'm better off getting the 55-300 then I'll just do that.

Me I would buy just the lens's for 300 bucks...learn the big one....and then go and rent the 55-300 for few days and compare the difference. Also remember those are both FF and can come in very handy down the road.

I can vouch for the Nikkor 55-300mm..it's a brilliant lens.
Several people (including me) in my photography groups have it and swear by it...

It's worth what someone is willing to pay, regardless of book value.

Take a look on ebay, and see what's going there. There are several 300mm f/4.5 ED-IF listed here.
