Has anyone upgraded to Maverick and think its great? because I read some bad reviews. Im trying to update my software with OS-X Lion but every time there is an error and it won't complete the update. So Im worried about downloading Maverick if there are problems with it.

I updated to Maverick a day or two after it was available. I have not had a problem, and no regrets here. You might want to make sure the rest of you apps, printer drivers etc. Work with Maverick.

I updated to a number of MAc's to Maverick No one has had a problem. Best way to upgrade is to reformatt the drive,(of course you need to make sure you back up beforehand) Then check that all the Program your have will work with Maverick.

Now I know that Apple says it is ok to install over your system BUT if you have had ANY type of problem no matter how small and even if you feel it is no big deal you should still start new. This way all Programs will work fine after you have made sure they are compatible with Maverick. Now I am sure people will say they had no problem upgrading over there system. But I will be more then happy to make a bet that any machine that I have upgraded will be working long after theres is having problems. Just my 3 cents. Good luck.

Check with Apple, but I think you have to upgrade to Lion before you do Mavericks. You can't skip an upgrade.

So reformatting will delete everything! I didn't think you could backup software? like all my aperture, photoshop, portrait pro etc? If not then sounds like a hell of a headache to me to run all these programs again and to find all the codes for running them again. How do I find out which programs are compatible with maverick? thanks

Yes reformatting will do that. That is the idea to have your Hard Drive like new again.
Well if you own it of course you can. But When I said back up you can also just back up ALL the files that you have made on your Drive. Because if you own the software you should have all the things you need to install them.

Well you can do it over what you have and wait until the headache you could have at some other point.

To find out what programs are compatible you can go to the site of the program and see what it says. I can't remember now but some place is a list but I am not sure where. Just go to the site.

If you want to have a great running computer with as little hassels as you can my advice is to reformat the drive.

If you have 10.5 "Leopard then it comes with Time Machine made by Apple by Apple.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner. It is just a great program and it is easy to use. You can buy it now, sorry I do not recall what I paid for it but it is not that much. Just do a search for Carbon Copy Cloner.

Hope this helps.

I have upgraded to Maverick a while ago. All my essential photo programs work well - PS CS6, LR 4.4, VM Ware Fusion 5.0.4, Focal 1.9.2.

Although I use Time Machine, I just got Carbon Copy Cloner ($39.95) and really likes it. I have an additional bootable hard drive, in case my 4 year old Imac harddrive fail on me I can boot from this external drive i got from OWC. You can download and try CCC for 30 days free.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Aperture should work fine since it is an Apple program.

It took over two hours the first time to clone about 500 G of programs and data. After that it only takes 10 minutes for subsequent backup. I am using this in addition to Time machine.

I have tried to bootup from this firewire 800 connected external drive and it works fine although a little slower (not by much ~ 20 sec more boot time).
