If you gave information on your operating system...

I have that camera and do not experience this.

If you use NEF, the sheer size will create problems if you have more than one hundred per directory, some will display a thumbnail, other will not. (Win 7 pro - 64)

Also due to the time reading the damned stuff the directory will not move correctly until dllhost.dll release whatever it is doing (creating thumbnails and refreshing them.

I killed this DLL once and for all. Now I refresh 'manually'.

Ok I am not a mac guy so I am sorry, I cannot help but configuration does come to mind. Usually it is because the OS has no way to understand what it is looking at....

That goes for all operating systems but how to correct it on a mac? Our of my jurisdiction.

If you have your macbook pro set to auto update it might be that the raw file reader needs updated. I have both a macbook & iMac and when they stop downloading it is usually a raw file update that needs done. I am assuming you are using iPhoto. Also if your macbook does not have the same version of OS as your iMac it will give you that message.

No Im using aperture 3. Any idea to set it to auto update? I updated software but i don't think everything is updated when you do this. I don't think it is anything to do with the camera as it would not be able to load to my iMac as Ive done. I checked both systems on iMac and macbook pro with aperture and they seem to be the same settings and my iMac is an older version aperture as well. I did download Adobe DNG converter on my macbook hoping to convert the bigger files to half size without losing any quality. I still can't get that to work in conjunction with aperture though. Im wondering if this has something to do with my files showing up as unsupported Image format in aperture?

Check and see if your digital camera raw update is 3.13. That is the update needed to read The D800E files.

If this is PS you need to upgrade for the NEF format.

Choose apple menu >software update

If there is an update available update for any of your OS or other apps it will appear in the software update window.

You probably need to update your Mac. NEF files are supported in 'Preview' the Mac native image viewing application.

The strange thing is my Imac is a lot older and has older software and uploaded the raw files to this no problems.

Apple claims that the D800E raw files are supported, "Requires Aperture 3 or later" :
http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html

If you still can't get it to work, you can convert your NEF file to DNG, since "Aperture works... with DNG files generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the “Convert to Linear Image” option turned off."

Yes I downloaded Adobe DNG converter but I can't seem to get it to work. It doesn't seem to want to work with aperture. I have aperture 3. When I open DNG it only seems to have the option of importing photos from desktop or photoshop. But I want it to work with aperture. I tried to update my computer last night but it wouldn't proceed because of some error. Happened twice now so don't know whats happening..cheers
