Explosion in Homer CIty, PA 19/Dec/2013

Around 4AM on the 19th of Dec 2013 we were awoken by an loud explosion. Then more explosions followed. Upon looking up the street we saw a very large explosion cloud reaching way up in the air. We drove toward the fire and found the Accent Fuels Company on fire and since it is a fuel warehouse, you can guess the rest of the story. Thank the Lord no one was killed. One firefighteer slipped on the ice and was sent home, but no other injuries.

It took a few hours to contain. The fire fighters did a super job.

A few more shots are on the next page.

Thank you! I emailed WPXI in Pittsburgh around 5AM and they sent Dave Bondy up here and he did a wonderful job covering the fire. I was really impressed with how they covered it.

Yes, and the fire department did a wonderful job. I believe 12 companies responded and most of the are volunteers. If fact one engine was involved in an accident responding to the scene.

You had houses a few feet from the building which only had blown out windows and melted siding. No one was hurt.

We live in Steelers' country and one person had a steeler mannequin in their house and so the fire department was vacating the houses near the site, they looked through the front door and saw someone inside and broke down the front door to rescue the person inside. The owner had left vacated earlier and locked up So one body was hurt.

God really was protecting this town.

Thank you for looking.

Did any of your photos make it into the local paper?

Yes, the Tribune Review in Greensburg used 3 on their online edition. They used one in their print edition (uncredited though) but I know it's me. And WPXI TV used one on air.

So though I didn't grab my tripod at 4am I still made it as a published photographer.

When I went back I made sure I had my tripod
