Howdy everyone! Hope all have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

I'm not new to Photography, but I am new to Digital Photography. I have too many cameras to mention - here is a few; Canon EOS 650 SLR (35mm), Fuji FinePix S2950 and a Canon EOS Rebel T3i.

I've been experimenting with my S2950 and have included a pic for critique. I did a zoom on this Gnome while taking the picture. I have to be truthful... this was purely a lucky shot. This shot was from 10 feet away.

Happy pic taking all!

Thank you rocco! Glad to be here. I've been lurking for a while trying to determine the quality of help here. I must say that all the posts I have read are very informative and accurate (replies) - so I took the big step and made my presence known. :)

Thank you! I have tried to accomplish this effect again but I am not able to get the same effect. If I only had "Auto Zoom" *grin*.

Hi Ozzy and welcome to Ugly H. I learned that technique back in 82. Used to use a 210mm lens, slow my shutter speed down a little and take a bunch of shots to get one worth talking about. Thanks for the memories. LOL. Hope you enjoy the forums and nice to have you here.

Thank you nikron7! The only [coolest] thing I learned back in '82 - photography wise - was how to stop a moving subject while blurring everything else.

I have about 300 photos that I've taken in the last 3 months that I want to post - just going through all of them to figure out where to put them.

You're welcome for the memories and thanks for reminding me how "old" I am. *grin*.

It's nice to be here and I'm enjoying the forums a lot better than a different forum that I joined.

Here's a pic of my RC Buggy with the same effect... but I think it's too much. What do you think?

My RC Racing Buggy - way too fast zoom I think.

I agree with you ggiaphotos. I was feeling like I was the best photographer in the world until I went back into the house and did the RC Car. LOL

I played around with this and found my best result was when I had some one running at me when I zoomed the lens. Just hold on to your photos. With all of the new topics every day you can usually post them on related topics.

Since your reply (nikron7) I have been testing different options for achieving the same results without having to preset my camera and zoom while trying to snap a photo. The only thing different I did was to set my camera to burst mode. I'm getting real close to getting the effect I'm looking for.

I'm disabled and in a wheelchair, so... some creative thinking on my part, led me to "roll" toward my subject(s). Surprisingly enough, this is easier than zooming in, but, if nothing else, entertaining for my neighbors!

Have a Great day!
